Explanation of Piano Condition, Grading & Scaling


BDY (Body)
A+
Almost new
A
Very few damages on unremarkable places
A-
Some minor damages on unremarkable places, or very few damages on apparent places (e.g.: fallboard, side arms)
B+
Some minor scratches and/or dents on fallboard, side arms, key bed, and/or key slip
B
More apparent scratches, dents, and/or light paint cracks on surface
C
A number of apparent scratches, dents, and paint cracks on surface in larger size
D
Serious damages with broken parts
The piano with the grade C or D is usually very old and tends to be lacking its gloss. It would need to be repaired especially for retailing. (It may be suitable for those who own workshops.)

The grade with the letter R (e.g.: RA+, RA-) means that the piano has been polished.

The piano with the grade A (i.e.: A+, A, and A-) can be highly glossy with our extra polishing.

KEY (White & Black Key-tops/fronts, and Wooden Parts)

Slight yellowish colorization on key-fronts, a few spots on wooden parts, and thin key-top flaws on a few keys

Some chipped, flawed, and/or scratched white key-tops

More than 10 keys are chipped / cracked, and/or bushings are worn out

Wooden parts have been damaged due to mouse-bite
The grade with the letter C (e.g.: CA+) means that the piano originally has the key-tops made of ivory. They are to be removed as exported along with the regulation for international trade (CITES). Instead of the removed key-tops, we supply new white plastic key-tops without attaching them to the piano.

The grade with the letter P (e.g.: PA+) means that the piano is with a pre-installed electronic auto-play (e.g.: Disklavier) system.

The grade with the letter S (e.g.: SA+) means that the piano is with a pre-installed electronic silent system.

The grade with the letter SP (e.g.: SPA+) means that the piano is with the Silent Ensemble system. (The availability may differ depending upon each piano. Please ask about details.)

SDB (Soundboard)

Being applied to any/all criteria, the grade with the letter R (e.g.: RA-, RB+) means that the piano has been repaired.
